Shrewsbury is Shropshire’s county town, and its centre, set within a loop of the River Severn, is one of the busiest retail and hospitality areas in the county. Streets such as Pride Hill, the Square and Wyle Cop are lined with shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, many of them in timber-framed, Georgian or Victorian buildings with offices and flats on the upper floors. Working in older buildings
Many commercial premises in central Shrewsbury are older than they look from the shopfront. Uneven walls, old plaster ceilings, narrow staircases and awkward access are all part of the job. Our decorating is led by Jeffery, an experienced painter and decorator, and we take care over preparation and making good, with our plastering team on hand to repair walls and ceilings properly before they are painted. Where a building is listed or in a conservation area, we work to the colours and specification you or your agent have agreed, and we are happy to talk through any requirements before work starts.
Keeping shops and restaurants trading
In a busy town centre, closing for a day is rarely an option. We carry out most work during normal hours, and when it would disrupt customers we can decorate a shop floor overnight, service a restaurant’s gas appliances before opening, or complete noisy work on a Sunday. Commercial kitchens can have their gas appliances serviced and certified by our Gas Safe registered engineer, including CP42 catering certificates, and where there are flats above a shop we can carry out the landlord gas safety check on the same visit.
Offices, business parks and multi-let buildings
Outside the centre, we work on offices and units on Shrewsbury’s business parks and industrial estates, from reactive repairs and job lists to lighting upgrades and full office refurbishments. For managing agents looking after communal areas in multi-let buildings, we can plan redecoration, inspections and servicing through a single maintenance contract, so there is one contractor to call and one set of paperwork to file.
