Why one contractor beats juggling several trades
Most commercial buildings need a surprisingly wide range of trades to keep them running. In a single year an office or retail unit might need its boiler serviced, a gas safety certificate renewed, emergency lighting tested, air conditioning cleaned, a leaking washroom tap fixed, a leak-damaged ceiling repaired and a reception redecorated. If each of those jobs goes to a different firm, somebody has to find them, check their insurance and paperwork, arrange access, chase progress and pay the invoices. For a busy office manager, landlord or facilities team, that adds up to a lot of time spent managing contractors rather than the building.
Severn Facilities was set up to solve exactly that problem. Our founders are Peter, a Gas Safe registered engineer, and Jeffery, an experienced painter and decorator. Together with our plasterers and handymen, and our partner electricians and air conditioning engineers, we cover the trades a commercial building needs day to day. You get one team for every trade, with one person responsible for making it all happen.
Less admin, fewer gaps
With a single contractor, you vet one business, file one set of insurance documents and receive one risk assessment and method statement for each job, covering every trade involved. There is no confusion over who is responsible for what, and no gaps where one trade assumes another has made good or tidied up.
Work done in the right order
Coordinated scheduling is where a single contractor really earns its keep. When lighting is being upgraded, ceilings repaired and a room redecorated, the order matters. We sequence the trades so each one follows on from the last, which means fewer visits, less disruption to your staff and customers, and a better finish. Work happens during normal hours as standard, and in the evenings, overnight or at weekends when the job needs it.
One invoice, clear records
At the end of the job you receive one invoice, together with the certificates and records for the work carried out. For ongoing upkeep, a planned maintenance contract puts gas servicing, air conditioning maintenance, electrical testing, inspections and redecoration on one schedule, with a report after every visit.
